ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is raising safety concerns about a federal building in Roanoke after a worker was injured in an elevator mishap.
Veterans Affairs spokesman Kevin Thompson tells The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/1mM9YxW ) that the agency won’t tolerate any situation that puts its employees in danger.
A VA employee, Caleb Quesenberry of Roanoke, tells the newspaper that he was injured Monday when an elevator dropped at least two floors.
Thompson says other VA employees have been stuck in elevators at the Poff Federal Building.
The building is owned and operated by the General Services Administration. About 400 VA employees work there.
GSA spokeswoman Gina Gilliam told the newspaper in an email that the agency confirmed safety switches functioned properly to prevent the elevator from dropping floors.
