Former Navy manager sentenced to 8 years in prison

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A former manager at the Navy’s Military Sealift Command has been sentenced to eight years in prison for receiving bribes.

Kenny Toy was sentenced in federal court in Norfolk on Tuesday.

Toy is the former afloat programs manager for the command. Court documents say Toy joined a bribery scheme in 2004 that lasted five years and involved multiple co-conspirators. Prosecutors say the scheme resulted in more than $265,000 in cash bribes.

Toy pleaded guilty to one count of bribery in February. At his hearing, Toy admitted to accepting monthly cash bribes of about $3,000, a flat screen television and a paid vacation to the Outer Banks in North Carolina from co-conspirators. Toy also acknowledged receiving a $50,000 cash bribe in 2009 to provide favorable treatment to two unspecified companies.
