NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A former purser aboard a Military Sealift Command ship will spend two years in prison for embezzlement.
Ismael Estrada was accused of stealing more than $350,000 from the USNS Arctic’s safe from 2006 until 2013. A federal jury convicted Estrada of embezzlement in March following a four-day trial.
The Virginian-Pilot (http://bit.ly/1p22FnA ) reports that the 66-year-old Norfolk resident was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Norfolk.
The missing money was noticed after Estrada transferred to another ship and a new purser was assigned to the Arctic.
