Exelis to cut about 60 jobs in Roanoke County

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — Exelis plans to cut about 60 salaried jobs at its night vision plant in Roanoke County.

Exelis spokesman Tim White tells media outlets that the job cuts will be effective at the end of the month. The cuts will leave the plant with about 425 salaried and hourly workers.

Demand the company’s night vision goggles and other products has dropped due to a reduction of U.S. forces in Iraq and Iran.

White says the company continues to pursue other markets.
