Charges against man in Va. officer’s death dropped

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) — Charges against a second suspect in the slaying of an off-duty Norfolk police officer have been dropped.

Media outlets say Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney Colin Stolle said Monday during a hearing that there isn’t enough evidence to proceed with the charges against Raymond Lewis Perry.

Perry had been charged with capital murder in the 2010 fatal shooting of 25-year-old Victor Decker in Virginia Beach.

Prosecutors withdrew charges against Perry’s co-defendant, Kareem Turner of Norfolk, in March. Turner had been charged with murder.

Perry is serving a 97-year sentence in federal prison in South Carolina for a string of robberies prior to Decker’s slaying.
