WYTHEVILLE, Va. (AP) — A former Wythe County high school football coach accused of making a player wear chains and carry weights has been convicted of corporal punishment.
Grayson County Commonwealth’s Attorney Douglas Vaught says in a statement that H.S. Ingo was ordered to pay a $100 fine and $86 in court costs. Ingo was convicted on the misdemeanor charge Tuesday in Wythe County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
Vaught says Ingo was found not guilty of hazing.
Vaught served as special prosecutor for the case.
Ingo formerly was the football coach at George Wythe High School. WDBJ-TV (http://bit.ly/1iuM73u ) reports that he was accused of making a player walk around the football field area while carrying 50-pound weights in each hand and wearing chains across his chest.
Ingo resigned in April.
