LORTON, Va. (AP) — Fire officials say a 34-year-old woman lost her life in a Lorton condominium fire that displaced three dozen residents.
Fairfax County firefighters responded to the fire Tuesday afternoon at the 8200 block of Catbird Circle.
On Wednesday, officials identified the victim as Mary Ann Brookie, a resident of the complex.
The fire department believes the blaze began accidentally, from improperly discarded smoking materials.
It caused an estimated $1 million in damage. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries battling the blaze, which burned for about two hours before it was fully extinguished.
