Va. mom sentenced in baby’s death

LOUISA, Va. (AP) — A Louisa woman who gave her 6-month-old son a lethal amount of Benadryl has been sentenced to three years in prison.

The Free Lance-Star reports (http://bit.ly/1mUSkcl) that 32-year-old Tristan Goodwin was sentenced Monday in Louisa County Circuit Court.

Court records show she also was sentenced to serve an additional year in prison for violating probation.

Goodwin had pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and felony child neglect in March.

Goodwin’s son, Tyler, died on March 17, 2013 at the family’s home.

Prosecutors say emergency crews originally thought the boy’s death was due to sudden infant death syndrome bu lab results indicated a lethal dose of over-the-counter allergy medication in the baby’s system.
