NORFOLK, Va. -- The Port of Virginia says cargo volume in February rose 6 percent compared to the same month last year.
Executive director and CEO John F. Reinhart says the increase could have been higher if not for repeated winter storms.
Reinhart said Thursday in a statement that port officials expect to make up any lost cargo volume in March.
The port handled 179,524 cargo units in February, an increase of 10,134 from February 2013.
Imports increased by 8.4 percent, or 6,515 cargo units, from February 2013.
The port handled more than 18,600 cargo units in January and February. That's up 5.7 percent from the same two-month period in 2013.
