ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (AP) -- A judge has approved a $186,000 settlement of a lawsuit stemming from a wreck that killed two Rocky Mount volunteer firefighters.
Christie Altice-Weaver sued Teri Anne Valentine and the estate of Rocky Mount Fire Chief Posey Dillon. Valentine was driving a vehicle that collided with a fire truck in 2010 as Dillon and Altice-Weaver's father, firefighter William "Danny" Altice, were responding to a call. Both firefighters were killed.
The Roanoke Times reports (http://bit.ly/1omK8Rm ) that Franklin County Circuit Court Judge William Alexander approved the settlement on Monday.
Last September, a jury found Valentine negligent and cleared Dillon of any negligence. But Alexander ordered a new trial, saying he failed to allow specific testimony from an expert plaintiff's witness. He also said jurors should have awarded damages for sorrow and loss.
