NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- A West Virginia man has pleaded guilty in Virginia to paying bribes to public officials.

Dwayne Allen Hardman of Charleston, W.Va., entered his plea in federal court in Norfolk on Tuesday.

Prosecutors say Hardman used to have a government contracting business in Chesapeake, Va. The business provided support to the Navy's Military Sealift Command on telecommunications projects.

Court records say that in 2005, Hardman and his business partner agreed to pay cash bribes to two Military Sealift Command officials to steer government contracts to Hardman's corporation. Hardman and his partner paid the officials about $3,000 in bribes a month until 2007, and began bribing officials again in 2009 with $25,000 in cash.

Hardman faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison when he is sentenced on June 6.
