Arson not suspected in brush fires in Ringgold

Tuesday - 1/21/2014, 9:00am  ET

RINGGOLD, Va. (AP) -- Ringgold Fire Chief Mike Neal says fire officials don't believe a string of brush fires along a road were deliberately set.

Neal tells the Danville Register & Bee ( http://bit.ly/1mzyqVE ) that eight fires occurred Saturday evening in ditches and yards along a seven-and-a-half mile stretch of Kentuck Road.

He says about 25 firefighters from his department and Kentuck Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the fires.

No structures were damaged.

Neal says the fires might have been ignited by sparks from a vehicle dragging something or from a truck with a locked brake.
