KESWICK, Va. (AP) -- Police in central Virginia say three people have died in an apartment fire in Keswick.
Albemarle County Police spokeswoman Carter Johnson tells the Daily Progress (http://bit.ly/KqXHBZ) that the victims of Saturday's fire include a woman and two young children.
Johnson says the children's father returned home from work to discover the fire on the second floor of the wood-frame building at 1:30 a.m. The building, which was destroyed, is split into two apartment units and sits on a 13-acre horse farm.
Johnson says the father and a neighbor tried to enter the building but were turned back by smoke and heat.
The building's owners, who live on the first floor, got out safely.
Johnson says the victims' names weren't immediately released and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
