Norfolk museum reopening likely delayed until May

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- The director of a Norfolk museum closed for the past year for renovations says it probably won't reopen in April as originally planned.

The Virginian-Pilot reports ( ) that the Chrysler Museum of Art's $24 million construction project isn't as close to complete as director Bill Hennessey had hoped. Last year, he predicted that the renovations and 10,000-square-foot expansion would be finished by the end of December and that the installation of art could begin in January.

Hennessey says that's been pushed back, and now it looks like the museum might not reopen until May.

About 200 artworks from the museum's 30,000-piece collection were exhibited this year at mostly local venues. The North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh is showing the Chrysler's masterworks through Feb. 2.
