RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- The Virginia State Police has a new director of field operations.
Maj. George L. Daniels Jr. succeeds retiring Lt. Col. Eugene A. Stockton, who has served in the position for the past decade.
As director of field operations, Daniels will oversee the majority of the department's uniformed personnel and nearly 1,800 sworn and civilian workers. Troopers under the director's command are responsible for patrolling more than 64,000 miles of state roads and interstate highways.
Daniels is a native of Charlotte County who joined the Virginia State Police in 1973. He was promoted as major in 2005 with his appointment as deputy director of the bureau of field operations.
