WEYERS CAVE, Va. (AP) -- Police say a 12-year-old boy drove his family's car nearly seven miles and went in the wrong direction on Interstate 81 before being apprehended.
Augusta County sheriff's deputies were called to Weyers Cave after the boy took the car Thursday. Lt. Dennis Back says I-81 motorists then alerted authorities that the vehicle was traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-81.
Back says the boy left the interstate down an entrance ramp and tried to re-enter along an exit ramp in Rockingham County but was blocked by police cruisers.
No injuries were reported. No charges were immediately filed and the boy was released to his mother.
The News Leader (http://bit.ly/1iaJish) reports the mother told authorities that Thursday's incident marked the fourth time he had taken off in a car.
