Ex-Christiansburg postal carrier admits mail theft

Thursday - 12/19/2013, 8:09am  ET

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) -- A former Christiansburg postal carrier faces five years in prison after pleading guilty to mail theft.

Federal prosecutors say the thefts included prescription drugs shipped to veterans by a Department of Veterans Affairs pharmacy in South Carolina.

The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/18To0qG ) reports that 46-year-old Teresa Webb of Pulaski entered her plea on Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Roanoke. A sentencing date hasn't been set.

Prosecutors say the investigation began after several veterans in the Christiansburg area reported in the fall of 2009 that they hadn't received their medicine.

Cash, gift cards and other items that people had mailed also were stolen.
