PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) -- Portsmouth's City Council is backing a lawmaker's proposal to legalize casino gambling in the city.
Media outlets report that the council voted Wednesday night to support Sen. Louise Lucas' bill.
Mayor Kenny Wright and two council members opposed the resolution. Wright says there is nothing good about bringing a casino to Portsmouth.
Lucas says a casino would create 1,500 jobs.
Under her bill, most of the revenue generated by a casino would be used to offset tolls at the Downtown and Midtown tunnels.
