RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- The Virginia Outdoors Foundation has reached a milestone with a conservation easement in New Kent County.
The land trust says the addition of the 116-acre Silver Hill Farm has increased to 700,000 acres the land under the foundation's protection.
The Silver Hall acquisition entails a farm that has been owned and operated by the Binns family since 1771. The bicentennial farm is located about 20 miles east of Richmond.
The Virginia Outdoors Foundation says it holds more easements than any land trust in the nation.
Conservation easements allow landowners to permanently protect scenic or historic property while keeping it in private ownership.
