BEDFORD, Va. (AP) -- Engineers are studying a plan to send water from Smith Mountain Lake to Bedford and Forest.
The Bedford Regional Water Authority this week approved a roughly seven-month contract to begin a study. It includes examining a water treatment plant and interconnecting water lines in Bedford County.
The News & Advance reports (http://bit.ly/1hlG7LB ) that an early theoretical plan is to add the treatment plant and a 26-mile line from Moneta to Bedford and then to Forest.
An early estimate set the total cost at $34 million.
The cost of the contract for the first phase of the project is not to exceed $1.12 million. The second phase would be a final design and actual construction.
