Thursday - 12/12/2013, 12:30pm  ET

RICHMOND, Va. -- Three projects across Virginia are sharing $200,000 in funding through a program that promotes regional economic collaboration in economically- distressed areas.

The Building Collaborative Communities program awards were given to the Northern Neck Planning District Commission, the Roanoke Regional Partnership and the Southern Virginia Regional Alliance.

The program works to stimulate job creation, economic development, and provides a significant return on state investment.

Gov. Bob McDonnell says the program has yielded regional partnerships, as well as involvement from the private sector, community organizations and other regional organizations.
