NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) -- Gov. Bob McDonnell will deliver remarks at the opening of the Newport News Apprentice School at Newport News Shipbuilding.

The stop is one of five Friday for the governor, who will end the day in Richmond at the Capitol Christmas tree lighting. He and first lady Maureen McDonnell will end the day at the holiday open house at the Executive Mansion.

In between the Newport News and Richmond events, McDonnell will proclaim December as Virginia National Guard Month and attend an event to promote computer science education in public schools.

The governor is in the final full month of his single four-year term.
