LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) -- Services are planned this week for a Liberty University student who was fatally shot by a security officer.
According to Sanders Funeral Home in Lubbock, Texas, the funeral for 19-year-old Joshua Tyler Hathaway will be held Tuesday at Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock.
Hathaway was fatally shot last Tuesday at an off-campus women's dormitory at the Lynchburg school.
According to a police affidavit filed in Lynchburg Circuit Court, Hathaway told the security officer he had been robbed and his car had been stolen. As the security officer began investigating, Hathaway pulled out a hammer and began assaulting the officer in the dormitory's lobby before being shot.
One of Hathaway's roommates, Sean Wong, told The News & Advance (http://bit.ly/1aPAC56) on Saturday that he still can't believe what happened.
