RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- A group of black marathon runners is using this month's Richmond marathon to hold its national gathering.
The National Black Marathoners Association says more than 420 members are entered on Nov. 16 in Richmond's marathon, half marathon and eight-kilometer events.
NBMA executive director Tony Reed says it will be the largest gathering in the group's nine-year history. He says the group started out with about a dozen people at its first event.
The NBMA also will hold a banquet on Nov. 15 for the inaugural induction of six athletes into the National Black Distance Runners Hall of Fame at the Imani Center.
