NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) -- A Newport News couple has been charged seven months after their adopted daughter died.
City police spokesman Lou Thurston says warrants authorized this week charge 31-year-old Terri Winslow Dennis and 40-year-old Pamela Travers Dennis with felony murder and child neglect.
They were arrested Monday and are being held without bond at the Newport News City Jail. No court hearing was immediately set and jail records didn't indicate whether they have attorneys.
Thurston says 7-year-old Terrilynn Destiny Dennis was adopted last December and suffered from a number of medical issues. In April, police officers responding to a report of a child not breathing found family members performing CPR on the girl. She was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
