RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Virginia Commonwealth University is getting a $4.4 million grant to study ways to help people with physical disabilities find jobs.
The Richmond school received the grant from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research.
The five-year grant will be used to the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Employment of People with Physical Disabilities.
Officials say researchers will study technology, individual and environmental factors, the effects of government practices policies and programs and interventions for transition-aged youth and young adults with physical disabilities.
Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers show percentage of individuals with disabilities in the labor force is well below the employment-population ratio for people without a disability.
