Va woman rides horse to DMV to get license back

Wednesday - 10/23/2013, 6:12pm  ET

RICHMOND, Va. -- A Virginia woman is trading one kind of horsepower for another after she rode her horse to downtown Richmond to get her driver's license reinstated following a paperwork mix-up.

Ashlee Owens says her license was suspended by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles because they hadn't received her proof of insurance despite numerous attempts to send it to the agency.

The 26-year-old from Amelia only found out her license was suspended when she went to renew her truck registration.

On Wednesday, Owens rode her quarter horse named Sassy to the DMV office, hitched it outside and hand-delivered the proper paperwork.

Originally she says the agency wanted her to pay hundreds to get her license back. But a DMV official listened to her story, waived the fees and reinstated her license.
