NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- A federal grant will boost oyster reef work on Virginia's Lafayette River.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Marine Fisheries Service announced more than $6 million in habitat restoration grants Tuesday for projects in Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts and Virginia.
The Virginian-Pilot (http://bit.ly/1eHY1H1) reports a $434,000 grant was awarded to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, which plans to add 2.5 acres of oyster reef on the Lafayette River next year.
A news release says the oyster reefs will create habitat for black sea bass and other fish.
