WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. (AP) -- A Virginia company is ending its successful demonstration mission to the International Space Station.

NASA says the Orbital Sciences Corp.'s Cygnus spacecraft is set for a destructive re-entry in the Earth's atmosphere Wednesday after detaching from the space station on Tuesday.

The cargo ship from the Dulles, Va.-company had been attached to the space station for 23 days. It launched from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility on Sept. 18.

The Cygnus capsule contained 1,300 pounds of food, clothing and goodies for the astronauts, as well as student experiments.

Before it left the space station, it was loaded with items no longer needed aboard the station.

The mission was part of a $1.9 billion NASA contract to deliver essential cargo to the International Space Station.
