Shutdown sends butterflies to museum in Roanoke

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) -- The Science Museum of Western Virginia is getting some unexpected visitors because of the partial federal government shutdown.

Media outlets report that the museum in Roanoke will receive more than 140 butterflies on Tuesday from Lewis Gintner Botanical Gardens in Richmond.

Normally, the botanical gardens sends its butterflies to the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., for the winter. The Smithsonian museums have closed because of the shutdown.
