DANVILLE, Va. -- Collaboration between federal, state and local officials has put nearly 50 drug dealers behind bars in Danville.

Officials on Monday announced the results of "Operation Clean Sweep," in which 49 individuals were convicted for distributing crack cocaine. Many also were convicted on firearms charges.

In all, the defendants were charged with 64 crimes that resulted in total prison sentences of 68 years. More than 20 guns were seized as part of the operation.

United States Attorney Timothy J. Heaphy said the operation was a success due to the cooperation of local, state and federal authorities.
