HONAKER, Va. (AP) -- A school bus driver has been charged following a crash in Russell County that left him and five students injured.
Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller says the bus ran off the left side of a gravel road on Route 671, went down an embankment and overturned onto its side around 7:30 a.m. Monday.
The driver, 63-year-old Robert Trent Jr. of St. Paul, was charged with reckless driving. Geller says speed was not a factor.
There were 11 elementary, middle and high-school students on the bus at the time. Trent and three students were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Russell County Schools Superintendent Brenda F. Hess says two other students were brought to the hospital later. Four students have been released.
The incident remains under investigation.
