CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- An early bye week gave Virginia and its revamped coaching staff a much-needed break.

The Cavaliers (1-1) used the time to rejuvenate mentally. They hope to look more like a polished product when VMI (1-2) visits on Saturday.

Virginia went into the break off a 59-10 loss to No. 2 Oregon, but rebuilt their confidence going through workouts with preseason intensity.

They also started feeling better about themselves when BYU beat Texas 40-21, a week after losing 19-16 to the Cavaliers. And they didn't feel as bad about their loss to Oregon after the Ducks beat Tennessee 59-14 on Saturday.

Defensive tackle Brent Urban says the Cavaliers made a lot of mistakes against Oregon, but mostly "fixable" ones. He says Virginia used the bye week to "work out the kinks."
