NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- Former Virginia State University president Eddie N. Moore Jr. is now interim president of Norfolk State University.
The Virginian-Pilot reports (http://bit.ly/15Y8G09 ) that Moore's appointment was announced Friday. Moore begins his new duties Sept. 23.
Moore, a former state treasurer, served 17 years at VSU and is credited for cleaning up its finances and increasing its enrollment. After retiring from VSU, he served as president and CEO of financially troubled St. Paul's College. He helped the school raise $5 million in six months, but the college closed this summer.
Last month, Norfolk State's board fired Tony Atwater as president after delays in completing the school's 2011 and 2012 audits, among other concerns. Atwater has said he didn't have enough time on the job to resolve the complex problems he inherited.
