RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- The state Supreme Court will hear arguments Thursday in a successful wrongful death suit brought by the parents of two students slain in the April 16, 2007, massacre on the Virginia Tech campus.
In a consolidated appeal, attorneys for the parents will seek to put retiring Tech President Charles Steger (STEE'-gur) on trial for his actions on the morning of the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, while the state will seek to reverse the jury's wrongful death finding in March 2012.
The state was the lone defendant in that trial. Steger had been dismissed from the case before trial in Montgomery County Circuit Court in Christiansburg.
The negligence suit was brought by the parents of Julia Pryde and Erin Peterson. They were among 30 killed in Norris Hall.
