CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- The University of Virginia is offering two new academic programs to help students in social and economic fields use data and statistics.
The College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences is offering a new minor in statistical analysis of social behavior. The McIntire School of Commerce has added a new study track called quantitative finance. Both programs begin this year.
Associate professor of commerce finance Michael Gallmeyer tells The Daily Progress (http://bit.ly/15LjRtb ) that companies' use of financial data is increasing and students want to learn more about it.
Jeff Holt with the statistics department says a lot of data that could be useful to social scientists hasn't been analyzed.
U.Va. also plans to begin offering a new Ph.D. program in the School of Architecture in 2014.
