RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Virginia oysters are heading to a Hong Kong seafood show.
The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services says two Virginia shellfish growers will appear at the Asian Seafood Expo on Sept 3 through 5.
Department Commissioner Matt Lohr says it could open up new business opportunities throughout Asia.
Virginia's shellfish industry sold $9.5 million in oysters in 2012. That's an increase of $3 million from 2011. The 2012 state oyster harvest of 250,000 bushels was the largest since 1989.
