RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Dominion Resources' charitable foundation is awarding more than $600,000 in education grants to 61 Virginia schools.

The Richmond-based energy provider says the grants will help fund projects at 43 K-12 schools related to energy and the environment.

Other grants to 18 college and post-secondary schools will help fund projects in renewable energy, environmental studies, engineering and workforce development.

Among them is Old Dominion University, which is receiving $40,000 for first-year engineering students to use the Norfolk school's photovoltaic power system to learn about renewable energy.

The Virginia grants are part of nearly $1.4 million awarded to 110 schools in states where Dominion does business.

Dominion Resources Inc. is one of the nation's largest producers and transporters of energy and serves retail customers in 15 states.
