POCAHONTAS, Va. -- Construction is underway in downtown Pocahontas on lodging for Pocahontas Trail riders.
Mayor Benjamin Gibson tells the Bluefield Daily Telegraph (http://bit.ly/11LYVxH ) that the project includes 14 cabins, five spaces for recreational vehicles, and a laundry facility. The lodging is expected to open by early 2013.
Jim White of Florida is building the lodging. His family originally is from the Pocahontas area.
Gibson says his town is getting inquiries from other people looking for property for ATV developments.
He says the new ATV lodging is a sign of renewal for his town, which saw its economy decline when coal mines began shutting down in the 1950s.
