NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- The guided-missile destroyer USS Gonzalez has returned to Naval Station Norfolk following a deployment to the 5th Fleet field of operations.
That area includes the Persian Gulf, Arabian Sea and parts of the Indian Ocean.
Media outlets report that the Gonzalez returned to Norfolk on Tuesday.
The deployment began in January and included anti-piracy and other maritime security operations.
The ship is named for Sgt. Freddy Gonzalez, a Marine Medal of Honor recipient who was killed in 1968 during the initial phase of Operation Hue City in Vietnam.
