NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) -- A federal grand jury has indicted two Newport News men on charges related to five killings.

Federal prosecutors said Friday that 23-year-old Antonio J. Fuller and 25-year-old Kevin L. Ashby allegedly were involved in the "Thug Relations" gang. The indictment accuses the pair of protecting the gang's activities through murder, attempted murder, witness intimidation, robbery and narcotics distribution.

Prosecutors claim they are responsible for the May 2009 slayings of Andre Horton and Andre Julius Johnson.

Fuller also is charged in the November 2009 slaying of Christian Hatch. Ashby also is charged in the robbery-murders of Lafayette Bailey in December 2009 and Lloyd Robinson in January 2010.

It wasn't immediately clear whether the pair have attorneys.

Prosecutors say there have been 43 federal convictions of "Thug Relations" gang members.
