CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- A University of Virginia spokesman says letters sent to students had Social Security numbers printed by accident on outside address labels.

Spokesman McGregor McCance tells The Daily Progress (http://bit.ly/15necUW) that the error occurred on letters to about 18,700 of U.Va.'s 21,000 students.

McCance says university officials are in the process of notifying affected students, who will be provided free credit monitoring services.
