ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (AP) -- Appalachian Power is asking Franklin County officials to approve a $1 million boat ramp project at Smith Mountain Lake.
The company says its federal license to operate the Smith Mountain hydroelectric project requires the ramp to give the public greater access to the lake.
The proposed double boat ramp would be built on about 10 acres near the Hales Ford Bridge.
Appalachian Power spokesman Todd Burns tell The News & Advance of Lynchburg (http://bit.ly/16zZ9q1 ) that the location is a high traffic area that's ease for many people to access.
If approved, construction would begin in the fall.
