RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Former Virginia Secretary of Public Safety O. Randolph Rollins is recovering from a stabbing during a struggle with an intruder.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1diBoq9 ) reports that the incident occurred Monday night at a residence in the Carillon neighborhood in Richmond.
Richmond police spokesman James Mercante says the homeowner went downstairs and found an intruder in the residence. He was stabbed several times by the other man during a struggle but was able to get the intruder out of the house.
A friend of the family, Constance Lynn, says Rollins was expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday.
Rollins served as secretary of public safety during former Gov. L. Douglas Wilder's administration.
