ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. (AP) -- Two Isle of Wight County officials are facing removal petitions for sending emails that critics say are racially offensive.
A petition filed Tuesday in Isle of Wight County Circuit Court seeks the removal of Board of Education member Herbert DeGroft.
DeGroft tells WAVY-TV (http://bit.ly/17HSFbF ) that the court will make the decision according to law.
Board of Supervisors member Byron Bailey faces a similar petition filed last week.
Both emails targeted first lady Michelle Obama. The men forwarded the emails but didn't create them.
Both men, who are white, had previously apologized. They have said they won't resign. But DeGroft has said he won't seek re- election in the fall.
A hearing is scheduled Friday on the Bailey petition. Another hearing is set for Monday on the DeGroft petition.
