RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Virginia Commonwealth University's board of visitors has a new rector.
Officials say William M. Ginther took the helm on Monday. The retired corporate banker has been on the board since 2010 and also serves on the VCU Health System Authority board of directors.
Ginther was elected by the board back in February.
Ginther worked at SunTrust Bank and the former Crestar for 37 years, managing several large projects and overseeing the technology team that designed the bank's customer information system as well as the Internet development team. Before retiring in 2007, he managed the successful consolidation of Citizens Bank of Maryland into Crestar.
The Midlothian resident earned a bachelor's degree in business management in 1969 and his master's degree in 1974, both from VCU.
