VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) -- Virginia Beach officials are considering allowing bicycle riding on the city's beaches.
A proposed ordinance would allow bicycle riding at the water's edge any time from October to April. From May to September, bicycle riding would be allowed between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m.
The Virginian-Pilot reports (http://bit.ly/1aqowRu ) that Oceanfront and Bayfront civic leagues have been asked to submit comments on the proposal by Monday.
Some residents support the proposal, while others have concerns.
North End Bikes owner Eric Koehn says he enjoys riding up and down the beach watching the ospreys and dolphins.
Ellis Hinnant-Will says she's concerned that bicycle riding could interfere with children and families playing at the water's edge.
