CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- An Albemarle County official under fire since he pleaded guilty to sexual battery has resigned.
Supervisor Christopher J. Dumler's resignation letter was announced Wednesday at the start of the Board of Supervisors' meeting. Dumler didn't attend the meeting.
His resignation comes less than a week after a judge denied a petition seeking his removal from office.
Dumler tells The Daily Progress (http://bit.ly/10Q8jQx ) that he didn't resign while the petition was pending because he didn't want to give it the appearance of validity.
The petition had argued that Dumler's conviction was hampering his ability to serve.
He says he plans to take a vacation and then plan what he will do next.
Dumler pleaded guilty in January. He later was censured by the board.
