ROANOKE, Va. (AP) -- Police are investigating the death of a highway maintenance worker who was killed while removing road debris in Montgomery County.
Virginia State Police Sgt. Rob Carpentieri identified the victim as 40-year-old Steven Anthony Cox of Roanoke.
Carpentieri tells media outlets that a tractor- trailer hit Cox as he was removing debris from a northbound lane of Interstate 81. Cox was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident occurred Tuesday afternoon. No charges have been filed against the driver of the tractor-trailer.
Cox was employed by Infrastructure Corporation of America.
