RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- A Mechanicsville woman accused of attacking her son in February faces new charges.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/12546LM) reports a Hanover County grand jury indicted 30-year-old Kimberly K. Shepperson this week on two counts of attempted capital murder, in addition to two previous charges of arson and malicious wounding.

Court documents show Shepperson is accused of attacking her 11-year-old son with an ax, giving him a prescription sleep aid and setting fire to her home on Feb. 21. The ax was found under a bed, and a smoke detector outside the boy's bedroom was disabled.

Shepperson is set to stand trial in October. If convicted on the attempted capital murder charges, she faces a possible punishment of up to life in prison.
